Leatherman - the idea was conceived in Tim Leatherman's head, he was travelling around the world and thinking of an easy way to take a set of tools with him. His knives are made of stainless steel and are mostly pliers based with various pulling tools including screwdrivers, files, saws and more.
Since 1983, LEATHERMAN has been making multitools that are very durable and made for the job. When Tim Leatherman and his business partner Steve Berliner founded the Pocket Survival (PST) multitool company, they had no idea that they would one day be producing more than 30 models in a 90,000-square-foot factory with more than 400 employees.
Oregon native Tim Leatherman graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Oregon State University in 1970. After that, he held a number of jobs, including positions as an English teacher and helicopter mechanic. His time spent traveling abroad was eventually spent inventing the concept of a new universal tool. From the beginning, the company has been founded on a simple philosophy: to manufacture and deliver on time, to fulfill customer requests and listen to their needs, to increase the efficiency of multitools, and to provide a pleasant environment for its employees. Although Tim is now retired, he still visits the factory at least once a month and both he and Steve play a key role in the direction the company is taking. Tim still makes many visits around the world to keep an eye on the distribution network.
