Bard the Archer was the heir of Girion and one of the most skilled archers. He wielded Girion's ancient sword and was the guardian of Dale's last Black Arrow, which he used to slay the great dragon Smaug in his attack on the Lake City. The Bard then fought alongside elves and dwarves against Azog's armies in the Battle of the Five Armies. The Bard Archer's sword has a hilt with the motifs of the ancient Dale and a pommel in the shape of two bird heads. The hilt is wrapped in leather with an embossed design of overlapping scaly feathers.
