The tachi was once the traditional sword of the legendary samurai before evolving into the katana after the first Mongol invasion of Japan.
The Tachi has a lighter construction and looks like a smaller, sleeker sword with a deeper curve compared to the traditional katana, and was used for one-handed combat.
Its fittings are very distinctive and ornate. After the katana had been in use for some time, there was a period of return to the old pre-14th century samurai in Japan. A style of katana was designed with classic tachi forging, distinctive tsuba, fuchi and kashira forging, and saya forging, creating a beautiful subset of katana. The
