Cold Steel Chinese Gim is considered a civilian weapon. It is not well suited for heavy combat, where much larger and heavier weapons could stand against it.
Historically, it has tended to be considered a complementary sidearm that was impressive in appearance, but sturdy enough to provide good defense on the streets or in open fields.
The Cold Steel® version has a 33 1/4 inch high carbon, heat treated blade. It is relatively lightweight so it can be manipulated from the fingers, wrist and forearm much like a western small sword. Traditionally used primarily for stabbing, but it handles slashing and cutting almost as well and can deliver a truly terrifying blow.
The rosewood handle and matching scabbard complement the guard and pommel, and other fittings that are cast from corrosion-resistant stainless steel. The Chinese Gim is intended to be an easily portable, highly functional sword suitable for our modern environment with enough embellishments to really impress and provide years of enjoyment and protection.
