Product detailed description
The famous Cawood sword, named after its discovery site near Cawood Castle in England, is considered one of the finest and best preserved examples of an 11th century Viking sword. The sword, which was preserved in the mud at the bottom of the River Ouse for nearly a millennium, has now found a permanent home at the Yorkshire Museum, where it is the main attraction. It is almost certainly a 'sister' sword to one found in Norway in 1888, which provides valuable clues to the origins of the Cawood sword. Hanwei's version of the sword perfectly replicates the pommel and steeply downward curved hilt shanks, while the broad full blade is made from forged 5160 high carbon steel. The weight and balance make for a very usable sword. No details of the original scabbard are known, but the styling of the Hanwei leather-covered version is typical of the period.
