Caring for a samurai sword or katana is very important. Without proper regular maintenance, the blade will rust even in a sheath on the wall. Cleaning and maintenance every few months or so will keep your blade in perfect condition. It will also need to be done every time the blade is touched, as sweat in the skin causes the metal to corrode. If the situation is left like this for too long, the damage would be irreversible.
