Cinquedea means "five fingers". It is the width of the blade, for five fingers, just behind the guard. The dagger was quite heavy and the length of the blade was up to 45 cm. The blade has a characteristic triangular shape towards the tip, and the tip may also have been slightly rounded. The handle was usually very simple with a small fingerboard and the guard was curved with a concave side towards the tip. The wide blade was often used for decorative etching. The dagger was more suitable for chopping, but in the case of a stab, the dagger caused fatal injuries.
