Tops Yacare was designed by TOPS GM Craig Powell. He first saw similar style knives on the hips of locals in Costa Rica, they were similar to baronga style machetes but had their own flair.
What he liked about this style was that they weren't quite like typical Central American machetes, after attending a worldwide bushcraft trip in 2015, he became convinced that he wanted to design a machete. "I'm definitely not a knife designer, so getting help from [knife designer and knifemaker] Leo [Espinoza] to make it happen and make the design fit in with TOPS' lineup was essential," - Craig Powell.
The Yacare is made from 5 mm thick 1095 high carbon steel with a TOPS Tungsten Cerakote finish. It has strong, well-shaped handles made from black canvas micarta.
The knife's design works well as a medium to heavy machete, and the full tang blade allows it to bite deep into lianas, thickets and wood.

In late 1998, the TOPS Knives brand was founded with the goal of creating some of the highest quality knives on the market.
