Product detailed description
CUMA KAGE (pronounced KU-MA KA-GAY), means "Shadow" in Japanese. The name is derived from one of the designer's lifelong passions, GI JOE: the Arashikage (Storm Shadow) clan.
SIJO Waysun Johnny Tsai is a lifelong martial artist and world renowned self-defense instructor. Riding on the success of his extremely popular TOPS knife edition, C.U.M.A. TAK-RI, and its pairing with the GI JOE Ninja Commando Snake Eyes, Sijo wanted to create something he had wanted since childhood, a functional Snake Eyes sword.
Over the next two years, Sijo and TOPS created a prototype, and at the suggestion of Leo Espinoza and Craig Powell, TOPS added several fillers and holes to the hilt to lighten the weight of the sword, In addition to the new fillers and holes in the hilt, the CAD file for the sword was created from original hand and digital drawings provided by Waysun Johnny Tsai and Roland Hinojosa III.
During the prototype phase, IDW/GI comic book artist Joe Robert Atkins agreed to improve the official Snake Eye sword in the comic book with KAGE C.U.M.A.. This story arc, written by GI JOE legend Larry Hama, is called GI JOE: SNAKE HUNT and appears in issues #266-276 of GI JOE: A Real American Hero.
C.U.M.A. KAGE is finally here and Sijo couldn't be prouder of the final product that TOPS KNIVES has delivered.
