The S 2 G.O.I. has been adopted by the Special Forces of the Italian Navy, it is an evolution of the original S.E.R.E. 1 model, created by a study group composed of Special Forces operators, martial arts and survival techniques experts.
This variant was redesigned based on the requirements of the Italian Navy Seals. The acronym stands for "Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape," which are the four basic concepts for training courses administered to military personnel at high risk of capture.
The S 2 G.O.I. was designed to be both an extreme stabbing and cutting weapon.
The unique grip, unlike conventional blades of this type, is designed to allow the blade to be wielded by extending between the index and middle fingers to form a single straight line from the tip of the blade to the wrist, and also allows for an inverted grip.
The grip has the same ergonomics as a firearm stock; this grip allows for instinctive and immediate use.
The tip is shaped to maximize penetration, while the deltoid profile gives it toughness. One edge is partially serrated - useful for cutting rope - while the opposite edge features standard construction and, as with a working knife, interchangeable blades.
The central hole of the blade, which has a double function: it lightens the blade and rotates, recalls the maritime origin of its creators.
The special feature of the knife is that it has been specially designed to be used without a handle; two holes in the part designed for the handle make it easier to assemble.
The Kydex sheath has a basic retention that can be used separately for operators who need to use the knife really fast, and a removable safety if needed.
An insert with a flathead screwdriver is also included in the accessory. It comes with a clip for belt attachment and paracord for attachment to the M.O.L.L.E. system.
