The Utica Cutlery Company was founded in 1910 by a group of prominent American businessmen in the Utica section of New York. At the time, it was believed that a metal factory could increase employment and bring economic growth to the area. The primary industry of the time was textile manufacturing.
Utica began mass producing pocket knives as early as 1910, the year of its founding. In 1918, the production of kitchen knives was added to the range. During the Second World War, the company produced bayonets and machine gun parts, which won it many awards.
At the stroke of 1952, steel cutlery was added to the range and is still continuously manufactured by Utica today. In the 1970s, the method of manufacturing cutlery was greatly improved by the importation of new materials, which resulted in the expansion of the range into different price and material ranges. In the 1970's, Utica acquired its own division from Walco Stainless to dominate the market. Walco is a major player in the hospitality industry and provides a range of products to the cutlery market. WalcoTM is now an independent division of Utica Cutlery and is valued globally by many target groups.
Today, Utica manufactures and distributes a wide range of pocket knives, lockback knives, liner lock knives and fixed blade knives. Utica has also secured a number of patents for multi-tools that are manufactured in a single location in the world, New York. In addition to the locking knives, a variety of cutlery and picnic sets are offered. Utica also has a presence in the sporting goods market and in the production of quality promotional items. A wide range of products are manufactured in New York under private labels for select customers only. Utica Cutlery proudly celebrates more than a century of cutlery manufacturing.
