Ohta Knives is a Japanese company founded by self-taught knifemaker Hiroaki Ohta. Hiroaki was greatly inspired by a picture he saw in a magazine depicting the Randall Model 1, a beautifully designed combat knife. He began knife making in 1898 with a vision of perfectly combining tradition with modern technology to deliver knives and tools of the highest quality. Hiroaki received his knifemaking training under Yoshimi Kotoh, who is known as the first person to design modern Higonokami-style knives made of wood. The company has focused on designing fixed blade, hinged and personalised knives suitable for use in hunting, fishing and self-defence. Ohta Knives' knife designs are heavily inspired by Japanese Higonokami pocket knives, whose origins date back to the 19th century.
