In 1986-87, I came up with the ATCF concept, based on my experience with military and security personnel in Central America and the United States, says successful designer Bob Terzuola. My goal was to create a unique knife that would combine lightness, strength, easy accessibility, and the convenience of carrying it in various places on the garment. At the same time, I wanted it to be corrosion resistant, easy to open and close with both hands and one hand. The ATCF was the first tactical knife to be assembled using only screws, not pins and rivets. I also invented the thumb stud for easy two-handed opening, which has become a popular feature not only on the ATCF, but on many other knives around the world. Another innovation was the use of a checkerboard ramp on the top of the blade that matched the finger guard on the underside of the handle when the blade was closed, providing protection and a comfortable grip when using the knife. A pocket clip then allowed the knife to be accessible in various positions on the body. The ATCF became one of the most copied knife shapes in the world and shaped an entire industry. As I like to say, "The ATCF is a classic shape that changed the game!".
