In June 2006, the "185° Rgt. Ricognizione e Acquisizione Obiettivi" (Target Acquisition Regiment) of the "FOLGORE" (185° RAO) parachute unit entrusted Extrema Ratio with the development of a unique knife to match the specific operational tasks of the unit.
The result was the unique RAO knife, a compact survival and field knife with a heavy and reliable blade.
Its highly reliable locking system, aided by an additional safety catch, effectively transforms the folding lock into virtually a fixed blade knife.
Opening and closing should be done with both hands to minimize the risk of self-harm, as the blade resembles a real guillotine due to its weight.
The steel pin, which is screwed in by hand through two holes at the guard of the solid aluminium Anticorodal handle - its presence between the blade and the hand also acts as a great psychological boon.
A quality sheath will always be an essential part of this weapon system: it houses the diamond grinding plate and allows the user to carry the knife either in the open position, held by a lanyard and two clips, or closed, inside the front pocket. The sheath can also be attached to a tactical vest or regular belt, compatible with the MOLLE system.
