The Tern knife has a black G-10 handle that is resistant to warping and fading. For better control and comfort, there is a deep finger wedge that extends out with the index finger to a position on the underside of the blade just below the thumb. The Tern has an 8Cr13Mov leaf-shaped blade with a full flat cut that is available in PlainEdge.

Much of Spyderco's production is not made in the USA, but in foreign countries such as Japan, Taiwan, Italy and China. Byrd knives are made from standard materials, mostly stainless steel, and are thus a cheaper version of Spyderco, combining the design of this world-famous knife company with a user-friendly purchase price.
