Samura began in 2003 as a family business led by founder, renowned designer and engineer Alex Yakovlev, who still hand-sketches every concept. Obsessed with precision, Alex invests countless hours to ensure that everything that bears the Samura name guarantees customers unparalleled quality, consistent sharpness and a unique aesthetic. And while the company has blossomed into a major market force, it's still run like a family business: ninety percent of the manufacturing process is done by hand.
Where other manufacturers are cutting costs, Samura believes that higher caliber requires more investment. That's why Samura knives are made from the finest Japanese and Swedish steel, hardened to 58-61 HRC. The knives are then ground to a unique 17 degree angle and many series undergo hand convex grinding. Although this is a much more costly and time-consuming process, the manufacturer wants the knives to cut perfectly. Samura was also the first brand to introduce mass production "stonewash", which gives each blade a non-stick surface that ensures easy cutting.
All handles are made from high quality materials and each Samura knife is hand sharpened on a whetstone before packaging.
