Kasumi, Page 2
Since 1916, Sumikama has been dedicated to producing the finest Japanese cutlery and knives using over 100 years of knowledge and skill in sword making in Seki. Kasumi is a brand of knives manufactured at the Sumikama Cutlery factory in Seki, Japan, which is one of the most famous knife and cutlery manufacturing areas in Japan.
The name Kasumi, which means mist in Japanese, was chosen to introduce and sell damascus steel knives worldwide. Sumikama was one of the first major Japanese knife makers to use the overlaid damascus steel with a VG-10 core, which has been imitated by many other manufacturers.
Sumikama is located in the city of Seki in the middle of Gifu Prefecture and is one of the major knife manufacturing areas in Japan. The history of knife making around Seki is more than 780 years old.
The conditions in this area are ideal for knife making: excellent quality charcoal from the pine forests and clean running water from the hills and mountains of the Nagara and Tsubo rivers. Originally the home of Japanese samurai swords, Seki has since gained a reputation in Japan and abroad for producing exceptional kitchen knives. Made in Japan
